Muttai Poriyal / Egg poriyal is eggs scrambled in South Indian style. These are very easy to prepare and can be prepared in few minutes. This can be served as a side dish for rice and also can be used as a filling for sandwich. One of my friend serves this as a side dish for chappathi too. I recently came to know that this egg poriyal is also called as muttai podimas.

How to make muttai poriyal / egg poriyal at home?

First chop onions, slit green chillies and keep it ready. Then in a pan, heat oil add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and when they sputter, add onions, green chillies and curry leaves and fry till onions turn translucent and start browning. Next add turmeric powder and required salt and mix well.  Now the eggs are added and keep stirring till the eggs are cooked and are scrambled. Turn off the heat and serve it warm.

Muttai Poriyal

Muttai Poriyal / Egg poriyal is South Indian style scrambled eggs. This is easy to prepare and can be prepared in few minutes. This poriyal can be served as a side dish for rice, chappathi or even as a filling for sandwich.

Ingredients :

  • Eggs : 4 nos.
  • Oil : 2 Teaspoons
  • Mustard Seeds : 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Cumin Seeds : 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Onion : 1 medium sized
  • Green Chillies : 2 nos.
  • Curry Leaves :1 Sprig
  • Turmeric Powder : 1/4 Teaspoon
  • Salt :To taste

Instructions :

  1. Chop onions and green chillies and keep it ready.
  2. Heat oil add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, when they sputter add onions, green chillies and curry leaves and fry till onions turn translucent and begins to brown.
  3. Then add Turmeric Powder and salt, mix well.
  4. Now add eggs and keep stirring , scrapping the bottom of the pan till eggs get cooked and are scrambled. Turn off the heat and serve it warm.

Notes :

  • Usually green chillies are finely chopped and added but my kids do not prefer biting into green chillies, hence I have slit it into two and them and before serving, I removed them too.
  • You can also add a generous pinch of black pepper powder before serving. If adding pepper powder, then adjust green chillies as per your heat tolerance level.
