Methi Dal is a simple dal fry recipe made with fresh methi leaves.  Methi is also known as Vendhaya keerai in Tamil. Though this is North Indian recipe, in Tamil you can call it Vendhaya keerai Paruppu, a literal translation. Methi leaves is packed with nutrients and has numerous health benefits. Though methi leaves taste slightly bitter,  they have a unique aroma which make them desirable. There are numerous recipes that can be tried with these tasty greens like sambar, stir fry, thepla, paratha, pulao etc.,

We get fresh methi  leaves from the nearby Indian store at least once a month. This time when we got it, I made methi thepla and with the left over methi I made methi dal the next day.  This methi dal is made with toor dal (tuvar dal or pigeon peas). This dal fry is flavourful because of the methi leaves. I found it very comforting and delicious. My kids loved it too. This can be served with rice or roti.
