I am here with Ellu urundai recipe today. Ellu is Sesame seeds in tamil and Urundai is Ball, so literally it means sesame balls. This is a easy to make sweet that can be prepared in few minutes. It requires only two ingredients.  They are specially made for Vinayagar Chaturthi but can be prepared and enjoyed during other times too. ellu urundai

Let us see how to prepare ellu urundai now.  First grate jaggery and keep it aside. Then dry roast sesame seeds till they slightly change in colour and a slight aroma begins to emanate. Let it cool slightly. In a blender, add the roasted sesame seeds and powder them coarsely. Then add jaggery and blend it. Transfer this mixture to a plate, take couple of tablespoons of the mixture and roll it tightly with hands and shape them into balls. Repeat the same for rest of the mixture. Ellu urundai is now ready.ellu urundai

Ellu Urundai

This is a easy recipe for Ellu Urundai prepared with just two ingredients – sesame seeds and jaggery.

Ingredients :

  • Sesame seeds : 1 Cup
  • Jaggery : 1/2 Cup

Instructions :

  1. Grate jaggery and keep it aside.
  2. Dry roast sesame seeds till there is a slight change in colour and aroma starts to emanate. Turn off the heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. Add these roasted sesame seeds to a blender and powder it coarsely.
  4. Now add the grated jaggery to the blender and blend them well.
  5. Transfer the blended mixture to a plate. Then take couple of tablespoons of mixture and roll them tightly and shape them into a ball. Repeat the process for rest of the mixture.
  6. Ellu urundai is ready. Store them in air tight container and enjoy.

Notes :

  • I have used white sesame seeds here but you can use black sesame seeds too.
  • If you need more sweetness, you can increase the quantity of jaggery upto another 1/4 cup.
  • You can add a pinch of cardamom powder for more flavour.
  • The number of ellu urundai obtained depends on the size it is made.
